March 12, 2022 at 6:24 PM Update: Saturday’s haul was 800 loads.

Yesterday was the first day of the county’s storm green waste disposal event and a record 700 loads of green waste were dropped off by residents. We stopped by today and watched as tree limbs, brush and tree trunks and rounds were offloaded – with the help of crews if needed.

Numerous residents told us this wasn’t their first and only trip, many started yesterday and plan to continue hauling the green waste off their property each day.

Neighbors got together, rented trailers and plan to have work parties throughout the weekend. “Our area got hit pretty hard,” a Banner Mountain resident said about the winter storm. “We shoveled snow for days and really got to know our neighbors. Now were just keeping the band together and doing cleanup.”

The community green waste drop off events take place from 9:00 am- 3:00 pm at 12625 Brunswick Rd, Grass Valley on the following days:

  • March 11th, 12th & 13th <– that’s tomorrow!
  • March 25th, 26th & 27th
  • April 8th, 9th & 10th

Nevada County OES and the Community Development Agency (CDA) contracted with the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County to run this massive cleanup event. Please take advantage of this free disposal!
