Grass Valley, CA — A newly founded nonprofit organization, Gold Country Animal Clinic (GCAC), has launched to provide expanded care, resources, and support for animals in need throughout Nevada County.

GCAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by local animal welfare advocates Ashley Vieira, Alex Maloney, Shanna Leslie, Kathleen O’Sullivan, and Peggy Reis.

Together, they bring decades of combined experience in animal welfare, shelter management, veterinary assistance, dog training, and nonprofit administration.

“We have a strong commitment to making veterinary services accessible to all pets in need”, said Ashley Vieira, President of the Board. “This clinic represents a bold step toward a more humane future. By expanding access to spay and neuter services, we’re addressing the root of animal overpopulation and creating lasting change for our community.”

GCAC’s mission is to provide accessible, affordable spay/neuter and essential wellness services that keep pets healthy, support families, and reduce shelter overpopulation. We are committed to building a compassionate community where cost is never a barrier to responsible pet care.

Key Programs Include:

  • Spay/Neuter Surgeries: By expanding access to low-cost spay and neuter services, we’re giving pet owners the tools they need to prevent accidental litters and reduce overcrowding in our local shelters. This program is about building a healthier, more sustainable future for animals in our community.
  • Low Cost Veterinary Care: Our goal is simple: remove the financial barriers that keep pets from receiving essential care. By offering affordable wellness services, we’re helping pets stay in their homes and strengthening the human-animal bond across our county.

“We’re incredibly excited to deepen our outreach to the community by providing low cost care to those in need,” said Alex Maloney, Secretary of the Board and Founder of Wayward Journey. “Every family deserves access to compassionate veterinary care, regardless of their financial situation. Our low-cost wellness clinic is here to keep pets healthy, reduce preventable shelter surrenders, and support the wellbeing of our entire community.”
