Wild Eye Pub hosts a monthly benefit series to support the efforts of area nonprofits. As part of this “Thankful Thursdays” series, local writer and homeless advocate Tom Durkin has developed a multimedia event – with live music, presentations, videos, an interactive game, and Q&A – to bring attention to the needs of houseless people in Nevada County. Additionally, proceeds from this event go to benefit Sierra Roots and their outreach services to this population.
Singer/songwriter Juliet Gobert and master guitarist Bob Woods begin the evening with a set of live music. This popular duo recorded Juliet’s song “No Place to Go,” the theme song for the No Place to Go Video Project. They’ll share this and other relevant tunes.

Area homeless advocacy groups Sierra Roots and Home Path will present on their current services and future plans. Nick Wilczek will share about Sierra Roots’ “Camp Immersion,” now in progress, services offered, and what’s needed to keep going. Pauli Halstead will talk about Home Path, a new, growing project to build a safe-ground camp for unhoused and homeless folks.
Tom will present excerpts from his No Place to Go Video Project, highlighting the Needs, Wants and Wishes of our unhoused local citizens. This project is in process and is being largely recorded at weekly Sierra Roots lunches.
The event includes an interactive ‘MythBusters’ session: Local educator Beth Whittlesey will challenge attendees to share what they know about homelessness, with prizes for winners. The evening closes with a short Q & A session.
You can read more about this event in Tom’s editorial’ in The Union, May 11-12 (online/in print), and in his Prospector cover story on May 18/19. As a formerly homeless person, he is dedicated to assisting homeless individuals.
A $20 donation is suggested for this fundraiser for Sierra Roots, but all donations are welcome, and no one will be turned away.
Wild Eye Pub offers fresh local food and drinks, and tableside service will be offered throughout the event. Reservations are strongly suggested!
