January 31, 2026 at 8:48 PM Via Kurt with Bicyclists of Nevada County: Today, Saturday January 31st, 150 people on bikes met at You Bet! Bicycle Sales and Service to join in solidarity hoping to honor Renée Good and fellow cyclist Alex Pretti. This memorial ride joined hundreds across the nation, in an effort to speak out against the brutality seen across our nation, and show support for our neighbors in Minnesota, and indeed, everywhere across the country. Ages ranged from 2 to 81 years old, from all walks of life, just like our neighbors throughout this promising nation of ours.

January 14, 2026 at 7:49 PM Nevada City Police Chief Dan Foss provided us a statement regarding the solo vehicle accident on Hwy 49 near the Broad Street off ramp. This is only a preliminary statement, the investigation is being carried out by CHP. Said Foss, “Hearing from just witness statements, the vehicle was a white pickup truck, newer model. The vehicle was actually traveling southbound on Hwy 49, towards Grass Valley. According to witness statements, the car was going at very excessive speed. When hitting the curves [between the intersection of Hwy 20 and the Broad Street overcrossing], the driver lost control, fishtailed, crossed the median, crossed all the lanes of the freeway and crossed the exit of northbound Broad Street right there. The pickup then flew off the roadway into the creek.” The vehicle ended upside down in Deer Creek. Foss clarified that only one occupant was in the vehicle and, despite first responders’ best efforts, did not survive the crash.

Caltrans has been notified to inspect the off ramp overcross structure for possible damage. The State Water Board has been notified of a possible contamination of Deer Creek, even though there did not appear to be much leakage from the vehicle.
