June 27, 2024 at 12:05 AM From the Grass Valley Fire Department: The Grass Valley / Nevada City Fire Department deployed a strike team 4801 Alpha this past Tuesday at 0300 hrs to the Apache fire in Butte County. The strike team is an OES strike team lead by Grass Valley / Nevada City Battalion Chief James Drummond. The strike team has 2 engines from Sacramento Metro Fire and 1 each from the City of Grass Valley, Winters, and Lodi. Crews had a line assignment yesterday focused on mopping up the fire and securing the fire line. Today was a rest day and they will check in tomorrow morning to get another assignment or possibly be released. There are other fires in the state so if they get released they could be assigned to another fire.

The Strike Team was assigned to the Aero Fire in Calaveras County around Copperopolis. On the way home they were assigned to the Double Fire in Yuba County. Fire crews hiked in and worked in steep terrain to secure the fire. The strike team was then released and disbanded on the 21st. We welcome back crews from NCC Fire, Grass Valley Fire Department, North San Juan Fire, Higgins Fire Protection District and Ophir Hill Fire.

This was in the Carr/Feely Lake, Bowman Lake area of the Sierras. One of the horses was found the next day but “Sparky,” a Chestnut horse has not been found in spite of many people searching and even a heat seeking drone being dispatched in the area. After three days of being missing Sparky may be somewhere in the town of Washington Area or Bowman Lake. Sparky still has his saddle on and may have rid himself of his bridle. June 7, 2024 at 8:55 PM NCSO Update: Suspect and child have been located alive down a steep river canyon. Nevada County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue volunteers, led by Sheriffโs Office personnel, heard noises and cries for help and alerted partners of their GPS coordinates. CalOES was able to confirm the child and suspectโs location with their FIRIS airplane. CHP responded with their helicopter and located both the subject and child by aerial observation. The child was safely air-lifted out of the river canyon with no injuries. The suspect is currently being assisted out of the river canyon by ropes. She too is physically OK. Thank you to our amazing partners, search volunteers, and the community at large for your assistance in this matter.

The suspect is described as a white female, 30 years old, with shoulder length blonde hair and blue eyes (pictured). She is further described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 135 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a black sports bra and blue jeans. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot in a southeast direction towards the South Yuba River.
The suspect is with a 3 year old male child who was described as being 3 feet tall with blonde hair styled in a mohawk (pictured).
The suspect has reportedly made self-harm statements towards herself.
