December 23, 2025 at 6:31 PM If, like us, you are the lucky recipient of a communication sent by PG&E with the subject line “Severe Incoming Storm- Prepare for Possible Multiday Outages” there are a few things we’d like you to know:
- Yes, be prepared for power outages, we’ve been telling you about it for days now.
- Note that the email does not list where to report outages. Let us fill that gap: Report downed power lines immediately by calling 911 and then PG&E at 1-800-743-5002 or report the outage on PG&E’s website https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/outage-tools/report-an-outage/
- Sending a mass email to some but not all residents of western Nevada County might be considered a corporate CYA (Cover Your Assets) marketing move by some.
- Sending a mass email after hours “Message sent on: 12/23/2025 05:55PM” ahead of a major holiday is poor timing in our humble opinion.
- The line and trouble crews of PG&E are awesome.
All that said, please stay safe!

From the National Weather Service in Sacramento: We’re going into this series of atmospheric rivers following a prolonged dry spell, which is a good thing considering we have a lot of rain on the way. Soils will eventually become saturated, resulting in runoff into the area waterways. Current thinking is the mainstem rivers will remain below flood stage. The smaller creeks and streams will likely respond and rise faster. Expect problems in the usual low-lying locations and urban areas too.
