On Saturday, October 19th, the Nevada County Branch’s monthly program will focus on the importance of women in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, featuring Dr. Megan D’Errico, Associate Dean of Science and Mathematics at Sierra College, and presentations by the Nevada County girls who attended the 2024 AAUW Tech Trek this past July.

The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held 9:30-11:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main Street, Grass Valley.

Dr. D’Errico will discuss the significance of bridging the gender gap in STEM-related academics and careers.  She holds an MA in education from San Diego State University and a PhD from Stanford in Geological and Environmental Studies.

The 2024 Nevada County Tech Trekkers are Sophia Alonso, Alyssa Burnett, Coral Duggan, Elaine Luisetti, Raiden Maddox, Tatiana McLachlan, Alliya Noxon, and Lena Von Ruden.  They will share their experiences from their week at the AAUW-sponsored Tech Trek residential camp at UC Davis, where they explored an array of STEM fields.
