MARYSVILLE, Calif. — Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will start work in mid-October to underground 5 miles of power lines in and near Camptonville.

Work will occur in three general areas and will pause during winter and resume in the spring.

  • The area of Rusty Oak Trail and Mercedes Way/Sleighville Creek Road, with work starting in mid-October and lasting nearly a year.
  • The area near Mountain House Road and De Groot Lane, starting in mid-October and finishing in July.
  • Between Mackey Lane and School Street along Mountain House Road and Cleveland Avenue from mid-October to mid-August.

Construction will generally occur on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brief traffic delays may be in effect.

In 2026, PG&E will install electric cables through the underground conduit and switch customers to the underground service.  PG&E will then remove overhead power lines and top or remove poles.

Future projects to underground power lines in eastern Yuba and in parts of Sierra County will occur in 2026 and will be announced.

Burying powerlines is the most effective solution to reduce the risk of wildfire from electrical equipment, as it eliminates nearly all wildfire ignition risk from a line once it is moved underground. Undergrounding also makes power more reliable by reducing outages caused by winter storms and strong winds and, in some cases, reduces the need for safety-related power shutoffs.
