Placer County Resource Conservation District (Placer RCD, the District) will be utilizing grant funding from CAL FIRE and the US Forest Service to assist in the recovery of private forestland within the Mosquito Fire footprint. Between December 21 and January 15, pile burning treatments will occur on sites along Foresthill Road to dispose of fire killed trees and brush. Pile burning is a critical tool for removing excess fuel loading and preparing sites for reforestation, and is only implemented under safe weather conditions. During the pile burn, Foresthill residents may smell or see smoke. Placer RCD has obtained all required permits and is working closely with the Placer Air Pollution Control District to minimize smoke impacts on the community.

Pile burning in Foresthill for Mosquito Fire Recovery Project

In addition to pile burning, the funding will be used for a variety of treatments including hazard tree mitigation, dead tree removal, site preparation, and reforestation on private, non-industrial forestland impacted by the Mosquito Fire.

Technical and financial resources are available for landowners affected by the Mosquito Fire. To find out more about the project or if you have questions, please contact Scott Stephenson, Forestry Program Director, at scott@placerrcd.org.

The Placer Resource Conservation District is a local, non-regulatory special district. Since 1947, we have helped people help the land by partnering with our community to conserve agriculture and natural resources.
