AUBURN, Calif. – In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office has launched a new victim services webpage to support victims of crime in Placer County.

“Victims in our community are at the core of the work we do in the District Attorney’s Office,” said Tamara Musolino, senior victim advocate for the District Attorney’s Office. “We want to ensure those who are victims of crime know our office is here to support them every step of the way, in and out of the courtroom.”

The new webpage hosts a multitude of resources such as information on the criminal justice process, an introduction to the District Attorney’s Office units and advocates, educational materials on victims’ rights and more.

Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is celebrated every year in April. The week is dedicated to learning about victimization and the effect victimization has on individuals, families, friends and the community. It also serves to promote laws, policies and programs that help victims of crime. Every year, thousands of communities across the nation observe the week by reaffirming their commitment to victims having the rights, resources and services they need to recover from crime.

From January to September 2020, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office Victims’ Service Unit served 5,217 victims and provided over 39,970 services. In 2020, the Placer County claims team processed over 1,000 California Victim Compensation Board applications for victims in Placer County, which led to the board reimbursing over $1.6 million dollars in state funding for crime-related expenses to victims.

The 2021 National Crime Victims’ week is April 18-24. The Placer County District Attorney’s Office, in addition to launching a new victim services webpage, will be participating in other events such as candlelit vigils, ceremonial ribbon placements and a moment of silence in front of the historic courthouse in Auburn.
