AUBURN, Calif. — September is National Preparedness Month, a time for individuals, families and communities to take steps to prepare for emergencies.

The Placer County Office of Emergency Services is urging residents to review their emergency plans and take proactive measures to ensure their safety and well-being in the event of a disaster.
“National Preparedness Month is a reminder that we should all be prepared for unexpected events, whether it’s a wildfire, flood or other emergency,” said Placer County Office of Emergency Services Assistant Director David Atkinson. “By taking simple steps now, we can significantly increase our resilience and reduce the impact of emergencies on our lives.”
Key preparedness tips:
- Develop an emergency plan: Create a plan for your household that outlines how you will communicate and stay safe during an emergency.
- Build an emergency kit: Assemble a kit containing essential supplies such as non-perishable food, water, first aid supplies, a flashlight and a battery-powered radio.
- Stay informed: Sign up for Placer Alert, the county’s emergency notification system, and follow Placer County on social media for important updates.
