Among them will be “Freedom is Fragile” (72” x 72”) by local world renowned art quilt artist Velda Newman who works in a large-scale mural-like format often with applique and painted fabric. Sandra Bruce, who teaches nationally and runs a local machine quilting business, will display her Best of Show winner from 2015 entitled “Claire”.  Working from a photograph, her Material Matrix technique produces large detailed  portraits to display on walls. Betty Mattox, who co-founded  PTQG in 1884, will be honored posthumously with her colorful and intricate “Bow-Tie” masterwork proudly hanging.

PTQG was among one of the earliest American guilds to form and hold a quilt show. Prior to the late 1970s quilters entered their quilts at state and county fairs, often competing for cash prizes sponsored by companies like Sears & Roebuck and the Singer Manufacturing Company.

PTQG currently boasts over 225 members and offers instruction on beginning quiltmaking to modern and advanced techniques. It also provides community service by making quilts for people in need, often working with donated materials and estate items.

Open from 10am-4pm both days, entry is $10 and includes free parking. The show will have vendors, a huge Country Store, raffle baskets, an opportunity quilt, and an art quilt exhibit by Mountain Art Quilters. Food will be available for purchase  by At Your Service catering of Penn Valley. The Brass Valley Five quintet will play at Noon on Saturday.
