NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. June 4, 2024 – The repairs at PG&E’s Spaulding Powerhouse #1 to restore half of the flow capacity have hit a snag and the return to service (RTS) date has been pushed out, again. Theย first deadline for restoration was April 30th, followed by aย June 8th repair completion estimateย after a closer inspection of the damage.ย That date was changed to June 12th and then June 19th. Now, it’s June 30th. The damage to the powerhouse was discovered in early March.
PG&E spokesperson Paul Moreno provided details on the delay:
PG&E expects to complete repairs in the Spaulding 1 powerhouse and resume water flows into the Drum Canal in late June. Unfortunately, more time than was anticipated is needed for the steel discharge tube liner installation and the return to service (RTS) date is delayed but remains in late June. PG&E has informed water agencies that the earlier projected RTS date of June 19 for the Spaulding 1 powerhouse is now June 30. PG&E continues working 24/7 to restore the powerhouse. The expected RTS date for the South Yuba Pipe remains in late August.
