Assessor Rolf Kleinhans has officially announced his candidacy for re-election in the upcoming Statewide primary election scheduled for June 22, 2026.
As Nevada County Assessor, Kleinhans is responsible for overseeing the office that establishes fair and accurate property values for the county’s assessment rolls each year.
Under Kleinhans’ leadership, the Assessor’s office has made significant progress in public outreach and transparency. The office developed a series of new informational brochures that outline available services, released more than 20 educational publications explaining the property assessment process to property owners, and published Annual Reports.
Before being elected Assessor, Kleinhans served as the Chief Fiscal and Administrative Officer for the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. In this capacity, he gained extensive experience in county operations, budgeting, and leadership.
Kleinhans holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in real estate and finance, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Geography-Ecosystems from UCLA. He holds a California Real Estate Broker’s License and is a California State Board of Equalization Certified Property Appraiser.
Kleinhans’s experience as Assessor, his knowledge of local property assessments, management expertise, insight into county operations, combined with his educational background, make him uniquely qualified to continue serving as the Nevada County Assessor.
Rolf has served as Past President of the Nevada County Association of Realtors, gaining firsthand knowledge of the local real estate market and understanding how fluctuations in property values affect homeowners and businesses.
In addition to his local service, Kleinhans is actively involved in the broader professional community. He serves on the California Assessor’s Association education and bylaws committees and has held leadership positions in statewide public administration organizations. Kleinhans has also contributed to Nevada County as an executive board member of the Economic Resource Council and has chaired both the Sewage Disposal Technical Advisory Group and the Nevada County User Fee Committee.
Rolf has been an active resident of Nevada County for over 30 years and has cherished all that the community continues to offer.
