Nevada County, CA — The Sierra Foothills Audubon Society (SFAS) invites bird lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, and community members to join a guided bird walk at scenic Loney Meadow in the Tahoe National Forest on Sunday, May 24, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Led by experienced birder Allen Bertke, this peaceful 3–4 hour, mostly flat walk will explore a pristine 50-acre mountain meadow located at approximately 6,000 feet elevation. The outing offers an excellent opportunity to observe a variety of Sierra Nevada bird species during the height of spring migration and breeding season.
Participants may encounter:
- White-headed Woodpeckers
- Mountain Bluebirds
- Red-breasted Nuthatches
- Fox Sparrows
- Spring warblers including Yellow, Nashville, and MacGillivray’s Warblers
“Loney Meadow is one of those special mountain habitats where bird activity can be incredibly rewarding in late spring,” said Bertke. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for both experienced birders and beginners to enjoy the Tahoe National Forest while learning more about the region’s birdlife.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring:
- Binoculars
- Water and snacks
- Layered clothing for changeable mountain weather
