Nevada County, Calif. – Sierra Harvest is excited to announce its first-ever Food Fight culinary challenge benefit, a unique event celebrating local food and the talented people who grow and prepare it. The event will take place on Friday, October 3, at 5 p.m. at the stunning Castello Vista Estate in Grass Valley, CA.

This exclusive evening will feature a friendly competition among the region’s top chefs, who will create a gourmet dish using 100% locally-sourced ingredients. Guests will have the opportunity to taste these creations and vote for their favorite. In addition to the culinary showdown, the event will offer craft cocktails, live music, and a silent auction. Local artists will showcase their food-inspired pieces, adding another layer of creativity to the evening.

“We are thrilled to bring the community together for this special event that highlights the incredible agricultural products and culinary talent we have right here in Nevada County,” said Eli Bacon, executive director of Sierra Harvest. โ€œThis event is all about the artists – our farmers, ranchers, chefs, mixologists, vintners, brewmasters, food entrepreneurs, and really anyone inspired by fresh food. The challenge to utilize local ingredients provides an opportunity for these chefs to find producers in our region and maybe ones they hadnโ€™t realized were here. It will also allow attendees to see what is possible when you eat local.โ€

Among the featured chefs is Zach Sterner from Penn Valley’s acclaimed Twelve28 Kitchen, Alan Gosker from Lola at The National Hotel, Garrett Dakan from DaKan, Rose Fischer from Kikimora, and Blake Bichsel from Water & Air Catering. Additional culinary creations will be provided by recent Sierra Commons Food Accelerator graduates.

The ingredients used by the chefs will come directly from local farms, as identified by the BriarPatch Food Co-opโ€™s alignment with the Sacramento River Watershed. According to BriarPatch, these boundaries arenโ€™t man-made, but rather include a single system of nature thatโ€™s interconnected by a common water source.

Proceeds from Food Fight will directly benefit Sierra Harvest programs and its mission to build a resilient and equitable regional food system.

This homage to good food is being sponsored by BriarPatch Food Co-op, MEC Builds, Nevada County Resource Conservation District, and Baird Lee & Dunn Group.

Guests are encouraged to wear “garden chic” attire for the evening. Tickets include unlimited tastings from participating chefs and can be purchased online at https://sierraharvest.org/events/event/sierra-harvest-presents-food-fight/
