Grass Valley, Calif. – The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is proud to present the Essential Tools for Caregivers, a free, four-part educational workshop designed to support those caring for individuals with dementia. This vital community event will take place Fridays, March 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Eskaton Village, Grass Valley.
Caregiving for a loved one with dementia comes with unique challenges. This workshop serie s will provide caregivers with essential resources and knowledge to navigate their journey with confidence. Attendees will hear from experts on topics such as self -care, community resources, elder care options, legal and financial planning, ambiguous loss, and palliative and hospice care.
“Caregivers play a crucial role in the well-being of their loved ones, and we want to ensure they have the support, tools, and knowledge they need to care for themselves as well,” said Sandra Barrington, SNMHF Executive Director. “This series is an incredible opportunity to learn from experts and connect with a community that understands the challenges of caregiving.”

Nevada County has a wealth of local support programs. Learn how to access these resources, explore different care options, and understand key planning documents like ADHC, POA, and POLST.
March 21: Legal and Financial Planning with Dylan Hendricks, J.D., and Heather Thorpe, CFP®, AAMS®
Experts will share crucial legal and financial strategies every caregiver should know. This session will include an open Q&A covering general financial and legal concerns.
March 28:
- Ambiguous Loss: Where Absence and Presence Reside at the Same Table with Barbara Larsen, M.A. Ed.
Through experiential activities, explore the emotional complexities of losing a loved one to Alzheimer’s and develop strategies to manage uncertainty.
- Palliative and Hospice Care: Understanding Your Options
Representatives from Foothills Compassionate Care will discuss the benefits of palliative and hospice care, including what these services entail, when to access them, and how they are covered.
