Nevada City, Calif. – The National Weather Service predicts COLD weather the nights of Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1st and 2nd. Considering the weather prediction, Sierra Roots is activating the Emergency Weather Shelter Protocol for these two nights. This is a collaborative effort to temporarily shelter one of our most vulnerable populations during extreme weather events and connects unhoused residents to additional services.
The shelter will open each day at 4:30 p.m. and accept guests until 8:00 pm each night. Hot meals are served at 5:30pm and 6:30am. The shelter will close each morning at 7:30am. Participants are encouraged to arrive prior to 5:30pm to ensure they receive a sleeping space and a hot dinner. Well-behaved pets are welcome.
The shelter is located in Nevada City at the Veterans Hall (lower level), 415 North Pine Street in Nevada City and will accept guests until 8:00 p.m. each evening.
