NORTH SAN JUAN, Calif. August 8, 2019 – In the wake of the disastrous and deadly Camp Fire of 2018, and as “high fire season” approaches, questions regarding evacuation in the event of fire are on the minds of many. The San Juan Ridge Taxpayers Association presents “Evacuation on the Ridge,” a free public event intended to bring greater awareness of fire preparedness and evacuation on the San Juan Ridge. Panel discussion presenters will include Nevada County Sheriff Shannan Moon, Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Sean Scales, Emergency Services Manager Jeff Pettit of Nevada County Office of Emergency Services, North San Juan Fire Department Fire Chief Jason Flores and a representative of Cal Fire. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the North San Juan Fire Station Community Hall, 10057 Reservoir Street in North San Juan.

Following the panel, members of San Juan Ridge Firewise Communities (both certified and in process) are invited to meet in order to collaborate and share efforts. People who wish to organize a Firewise Community in their neighborhood will have the opportunity to discuss the process with Pat Leach, a member of the first Firewise Community on the Ridge, and those wishing to make a trial drive of major evacuation routes will be able to sign up for several proposed dates and routes.
