November 5, 2018 – “Fire on the Ridge: How do we make our community more fire safe?” is a free public event intended to bring greater awareness of fire prevention and safety issues on the San Juan Ridge. A variety of speakers will address topics such as the “new normal” of fire behavior in the West, resources available to homeowners and neighborhoods, Firewise Communities, and projects being undertaken on the San Juan Ridge to create a more fire safe environment.
Speakers include Cal Fire Northern Operations Division Chief Jim Mathias, North San Juan Volunteer Fire Department Battalion Chief Boyd Johnson, fire scientist Jo Ann Fites, North San Juan Fire Protection District board member Pat Leach, Fire Safe Council of Nevada County board chair Donn Thane, and Yuba Watershed Institute executive director Chris Friedel.
The event is produced by the San Juan Ridge Taxpayers Association, and takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 8 at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center, 17894 Tyler-Foote Road. Doors will open at 6:30 and refreshments will be available.
