NEVADA CITY, Calif. February 10, 2026 – This afternoon’s Board of Supervisors meeting brought well-deserved recognition to 112 employees who have been with Nevada County for five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five and, in the case of Sheriff Shannan Moon, thirty-five years. Together, they have provided 1,130 years of service to residents.

Service pin ceremony, Feb 10, 2026.

Tribute to Crystal Clark

Special recognition was given to Crystal Clark, who recently passed away. Rachel Peรฑa, the Director of Social Services, and Crystal’s co-workers paid tribute to her. “We just wanted to take this time to offer our recognition of Crystal’s 10 years of service with us. Crystal was an absolutely beloved member of Social Services for 10 years. For over 10 years, she was a Nevada County Human Services Specialist. She dedicated herself to advocating for our most vulnerable residents. She was hilarious. For anybody who knew Crystal, she was brilliant. She was gorgeous. She was hilarious. She was a good friend. She was a strong advocate, and she cared so deeply for the people that she served and the people that we all serve. She trained me coming in. She was the first person to volunteer for any sheltering events. My very first sheltering event, she was there volunteering, telling me where I should be, what I should be doing, and how to do it. I was so grateful for her guidance and just really want to say how deeply what a huge loss this is for all of us.”

Crystal’s husband Matt who accepted the certificate of recognition on her behalf said,”I don’t really have anything prepared, I was just expecting to sit in the back, crying. But I do know she loved this job. The people she worked with, she talked about you guys all the time. And she loved the people she helped, I think she liked that the best. She loved the county, and I know if she’s listening, she’s gonna miss you just as much as you guys are gonna miss her. So I thank you guys for allowing me to grieve up here a little bit and to put some faces to the names. You guys are kind of a secondary family to her and by proxy, to me. I want to thank you guys for allowing her to work at a job that she loved.”

1,130 years of service to Nevada County

Pivoting to the awards, CEO Alison Lehman and Chair Swarthout thanked county staff for their work. Lehman said, “We’re here not just to honor the years that you have worked for Nevada County, but really to honor you making the choice to be a public servant and for all the contributions that you make every day for our residents. I have such great respect and admiration in terms of the work that you do, because it is hard, hard work.”

Swarthout concurred, “Just to echo what Alison is saying, thank you for the work that you do to service every day in our community. Like I said, this is one of our favorite moments of the year. Because without all of you, we would not be sitting up here. You make us look good every single day. You make our jobs as Board of Supervisors easier with your professionalism, your knowledge of issues in the community.”
