Join us for The Living Room, a heartful evening of film, dance, and poetry that explores the idea of Home and the places we come from. This two-night event will be held on June 20th and 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Bodhi Hive. Your evening will include a short film screening created by Margot Roa, and new dance works performed by Toria Talbott and Charlotte Stehmeyer.

The evening invites audiences into a shared, intimate space where personal histories will unfold through visual storytelling. Developed since early January, The Living Room is a labor of love and collaboration that seeks to connect deeply with the community through memory and art.

“We are excited to share this project with our community. It has been deeply fulfilling to collaborate with other young artists who are dedicated to creating live performances here in Nevada County,” says Charlotte Stehmeyer, Lead Event Coordinator.

The event is free to attend, but donations are gratefully accepted to benefit The Living Room Arts Collective and Bright Futures for Youth. Further supporting the ongoing creative initiatives and community programming that fuels Nevada County.

Attendees are encouraged to register in advance at the following link.

Meet the Artists

Margot Roa – Roa is a filmmaker, photographer, and poet with a Film and Digital Media B.A. from University of California, Santa Cruz. Her work has been featured by the Nevada County Arts Council, as well as in collaboration with local businesses like Lavinia Apothecary. She has directed six short films, earning recognition such as the Kingsley Merit Award for The Handmade Man and second place at the Look at Us, Yuba Sutter Film Festival.

“My film Portraits is a practice in observation, rooted in where I come from: my mother, my father, and the sun.”

Charlotte Stehmeyer – Stehmeyer is a Nevada City based movement artist with a B.F.A. in Modern Dance from the University of Utah. She was awarded the Endowed Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program Fellowship and has performed over 30 live performance works, and premiered her choreography at the Queer Spectra Arts Festival in Salt Lake City. Her work centers on narrative immersion and the expressive potential of the emotional body.

“This dance has slowly developed into a rough reflection of the past year. A true deep dive into the idea of tuning and re-tuning again and again.”

Toria Talbott – Talbott holds a B.F.A. in Dance from California State University, Long Beach, where she performed and choreographed numerous works. She has worked with professional choreographers and performed in New York City’s Wave Rising Series in association with the 92Y Harkness Dance Center. Toria currently teaches dance techniques at multiple Nevada County schools and is an Artistic Director of Collective Roots Dance Company.

“The piece I’m working on is a visceral exploration of the resilience of the human spirit—a journey through chaos, the search for equilibrium, and the quiet power found in vulnerability. Ultimately, the dance is a celebration of endurance, healing, and the beauty of embracing one’s imperfections on the path to inner peace.”
