NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. January 30, 2024 – Candidates for local office have to disclose their campaign finances, according to state law. The deadline for the first pre-election statement was January 25, 2024. Three candidates for County Supervisor apparently have not filed the required reports at publication time.

Candidate’s responsibilities are spelled out in the handbook

The candidate handbook, available on the Elections website and given to each candidate when they file, states: “You are responsible for knowing the campaign finance rules and reporting requirements.” Each candidate signs the FPPC Information Acknowledgement Form at filing time. The Elections Office is not responsible for reminding candidates of filing deadlines or alert them to missed deadlines.

District 1 Candidates

Incumbent Heidi Hall and challenger Sue McGuire filed their reports on time. Hall’s Form 460 lists a balance of $7,544.60 and McGuire’s Form 460 reports $4,859.55 cash on hand. The third candidate, Michael Taylor, apparently has not filed a Form 460 since his last run for Supervisor in 2020.

District 2 Candidates

John Herrera shows no filing activity on the county’s Netfile portal. Jeff Pettit’s Form 460 shows a cash balance of $6,516.44. Robb Tucker’s Form 460 reports $6,759.75. Both Pettit and Tucker filed on time and have 5-figure outstanding debts listed on the reports.

District 5 Candidate

Hardy Bullock’s Form 460 lists an ending balance of $2,001.50. Bullock is running unopposed.

Independent Expenditures filed 90 days prior to the election date

Per the county’s Netfile: No Independent Expenditures found.

Contributions made/received over $1,000 prior to the Election Date

These contributions have to be filed on a Form 497 within 24 hours of making or receiving a contribution of $1,000 or more.

The Nevada County Contractors’ Association Political Action Committee made a $1,000 contribution to Robb Tucker’s campaign on January 2, 2024.

Sue McGuire reported a $1,000 contribution from an individual on January 3, 2024.

Heidi Hall reported a $1,000 contribution from an individual on January 7, 2024.

The Nevada County Democratic Women’s Club reported sending a $1,000 contribution to Heidi Hall’s campaign on January 16, 2024.

Heidi Hall reported receiving the $1,000 from the Nevada County Democratic Women’s Club on January 16, 2024.

Sue McGuire reported receiving a $2,500 contribution from a local business.

Robb Tucker reported receiving the Nevada County Contractors’ Association Political Action Committee $1,000 contribution on January 17, 2024.

Heidi Hall reported receiving a $2,000 contribution from the Nevada County Democratic Central Committee on Jan. 17, 2024.

Heidi Hall reported a $1,000 contribution from an individual on January 23, 2024.

Pettitt loaned his campaign $5,000 on Jan. 26, 2024.

The next required filing deadline for local candidates is January 31, 2024 – the semi-annual statement.
