GRASS VALLEY, CA, June 5, 2025 – KNCO Radio is proud to celebrate a major milestone: Tom Fitzsimmons, longtime Program Director and Morning Show Host, marks 30 years on the air on June 6.

Tom Fitzsimmons

Tom joined KNCO in 1995 as a part-time sports reporter. His natural rapport with both listeners and guests quickly made him a standout voice, leading to hosting opportunities that evolved into the popular two-way sports talk show. His passion for storytelling and community engagement eventually led him to anchor “On the Town” (formerly Talk of the Town), a beloved program that brings local personalities into the spotlight at local restaurants in the area, airing weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Throughout his tenure, Tom has taken on many roles โ€” from co-hosting the FM morning show with Michelle Shockley during the station’s transitions from K94 Hot Country to 94.3 The Wolf and now Star 94.1, to stepping in as Interim General Manager following the departure of Bob Breck. He succeeded Jim Kerr as the Morning Show Host, continuing a tradition of local connection and relevant conversation.

One of Tomโ€™s most impactful contributions is his work on the “Community Insight” program, airing weekdays from 9 to 10 a.m. With thoughtful interviews and a deep understanding of local issues, Tom provides a vital platform for nonprofits, public agencies, and civic leaders to share news, resources, and services that benefit Nevada County residents.

In addition to his on-air work, Tom is a passionate advocate for youth. Heโ€™s called countless high school football and basketball games for Bear River and Nevada Union, often sharing the mic with students and covering games featuring second-generation athletes whose parents once played in the same rivalries. His coverage extends to the Nevada County Fairโ€™s Ag Mechanics Showcase and Junior Livestock Auction, events that reflect his commitment to community and tradition.

โ€œIโ€™ve seen a lot of changes over the years, and worn a lot of hats,โ€ Tom said. โ€œBut my favorite thing is working with the youthโ€”whether itโ€™s on the Youth Commission or at the high school football and basketball games. Now Iโ€™m covering games played by the kids of players I covered years ago. Thatโ€™s pretty special.โ€

Shareholder Scott Robertson adds, โ€œWe canโ€™t thank Tom enough for 30 amazing years of hard work, heart, and humor. His dedication has helped keep our stations not only relevant, but a fun, trusted source of local news and connection for our community.โ€

Nevada County Broadcasters congratulates Tom on this extraordinary 30-year journey. His dedication, heart, and voice have become part of the fabric of our communityโ€”and weโ€™re lucky to have him.

Editor’s note: Congrats Tom!
