NEVADA CITY, Calif. July 5, 2024 – Nevada County Consolidated Fire shared the sad news of two drownings yesterday, one at the 49 bridge and one near Bridgeport.

Today, at approximately 1:27 pm, Nevada County Consolidated Fire responded along with CHP – Valley Division Air Operations H20 to Highway 49 and the Yuba River for a report of a subject who entered the water and had not resurfaced. Upon arrival, rescuers located the body of an unresponsive adult male and began CPR until pronounced deceased on scene. Due to the challenging and steep terrain, units from Nevada County Consolidated Fire, North San Juan Fire Protection District, CAL FIRE NEU, State Parks and Sierra Nevada Ambulance utilized a technical rope rescue system to gain rapid access to the victim.

Shortly after clearing the first incident, NCCFD Rescue 84 responded with Penn Valley Fire Protection District to a separate water rescue for another possible drowning. An adult male was pronounced deceased on scene.
