Grass Valley, CA – Reese Hadley Lanskey-Stevens, 18, of Nevada City, and River Casey Harris, 20, of Grass Valley, were arrested on Aug. 28 for their suspected involvement in a vehicle shooting on Aug. 27. Lanskey-Stevens was arrested for criminal conspiracy, stalking, and committing a felony while on bail. Harris was arrested for criminal conspiracy.

The incident unfolded in the vicinity of the 10000 block of Sundown Place in Grass Valley on the evening of Aug. 27. The first 911 call indicated a vehicle was reportedly being shot at and followed by at least two male suspects with firearms in a red four-door hatchback. Occupants of the targeted vehicle fled for their safety; it was later determined through the course of the investigation that five individuals occupied the targeted vehicle, all of whom were uninjured in the incident.

While the suspects were not located that evening or by early morning, the case remained active and through the course of NCSO’s investigation, the suspects were identified as Lanskey-Stevens and Harris. An NCSO detective tracked down Lanskey-Stevens and Harris in the suspect vehicle just after 2 p.m. on Aug. 28. A felony vehicle stop was soon initiated in the vicinity of Dog Bar Road and Magnolia Road in Grass Valley, with support from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Placer County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

Six individuals occupied the suspect vehicle, including Lanskey-Stevens and Harris, both of whom were taken into custody at 2:38 p.m. Both men were interviewed and questioned at length before being arrested and booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility last night on the aforementioned charges. The other four individuals are not suspects in the reported shooting incident and were released at the scene.

Detectives of NCSO sought and received a bail bond enhancement for both suspects. Lanskey-Stevens remains in custody today on a $350,000 bail bond and Harris remains in custody today on a $200,000 bail bond. This case remains under active investigation.

Updates to 8/28/24 related release: The first 911 call was received at 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 (this was incorrectly noted as 9:30 p.m.). Additionally, a GVPD officer initiated a traffic stop on Aug. 27 to investigate a possible suspect vehicle; when the vehicle failed to yield, a vehicle pursuit ensued, and the vehicle crashed with occupant(s) fleeing the scene. While this activity was suspicious, through the course of the investigation, it was determined this vehicle was not the vehicle utilized in the reported shooting. This pursuit and crash are being investigated separately.
