NEVADA CITY, Calif. June 14, 2018 – The second update of unofficial results since election night has been released by the Nevada County Elections Office. An additional 14,259 ballots have been counted, with some 1,000 remaining to be tallied. With 36,027 votes counted, voter turnout now stands at 52.96% out of 68,023 registered voters. Approximately 1,000 ballots remain to be counted.
Sheriff’s race
Captain Shannan Moon has widened her lead with 12,049 votes and will be in the November runoff. Lieutenant Bill Smethers, is in second place with 10,897 votes. John Foster garnered 10,475 votes and narrowed the gap from 600 votes down to 400.
District 3 Supervisor
Incumbent Dan Miller holds on to a small lead with 3,345 votes compared to challenger Hilary Hodge’s 3,164 votes.
District Attorney
Current DA Cliff Newell leads with 15,784 votes to challenger Glenn Jennings’ 15,388 votes. Newell has 50.64% of the votes counted.
Recount looms in Nevada City race
An automatic recount is likely in the Nevada City City Council race:
Duane Strawser 685 30.35%
Evans Phelps 627 27.78%
Erin Minett 627 27.78%
Pauli Halstead 318 14.09%
