Thirty-one volunteers were invited to the event, which celebrated the individuals and organizations who help support local veterans and their families throughout the year.

“Nevada County veterans thrive in their post-military careers because of the dedication of our volunteers,” said Nevada County Veterans Services Officer David West. “Their willingness to give their time, talents and compassion makes a real difference in the lives of those who served our country.”

Many of the volunteers recognized at the luncheon support veterans through one of two impactful programs – the Veterans Service Office Driver Program and Guitars for Vets. The Driver Program is powered by dedicated community volunteers who generously donate their time to transport veterans to their medical appointments through the greater Sacramento region. Guitars for Vets helps veterans enhance their well-being through the healing power of music by providing 10 free one-on-one guitar lessons. Upon graduation, participants receive a complimentary acoustic guitar to continue their musical journey.

The event also highlighted the contributions of county employees Arianne Duperron and Tiffani Rooney, who organize the annual Department of Social Services Veterans Soup Kitchen fundraiser. The event raises between $500 and $700 each year for the Nevada County Consolidated Veterans Council. Funds are generated entirely through Department of Social Services employees who volunteer to prepare family soup and chili recipes that are sold to fellow County employees.

Other volunteers recognized during the luncheon included David Quirk, Gary Tanaka, Rick Rice, Victor Gallicchio, John Thomson, Lou Johnson, Jeff Tynan and Diana Runnels.
