GRASS VALLEY, Calif.June 16, 2017 – A structure fire with victims trapped was reported at 3:35pm on Carey Drive off of Ridge Road in Grass Valley. The first arriving units reported approximately 50%-75% involvement in a single family residence with smoke to the floor, and the fire burning through the attic spaces into the main living space of the residence. 1 victim escaped the fire and was able to make it out of the residence, the second victim was trapped; located in a bathroom and rescued by fire crews.

Care was transferred to Sierra Nevada Ambulance for treatment. Both patients suffered significant burn injuries and were transported to Lyman Gilmore landing zone were CALSTAR 3, and Reach 7 transported the patients by air to UC Davis Burn Center.

The fire took approximately 1 hours to knockdown and an addition 2 hours to fully extinguish.

The cause is still under investigation by the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District.

E1, E2, E88, E5482, E84, Battalion 2, Prevention 1, Prevention 3 and Chief 5102 were assisted by Rough and Ready Fire, Ophir Hill Fire, Penn Valley Fire, Sierra Nevada Ambulance, CALSTAR 3, Reach 7 and Cal Fire.

All units were released at 6:23 pm.
