PLACER COUNTY – Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project and gas-line replacement work continuing along State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.

The broadband project is a part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Survey work is scheduled along the eastbound shoulder of SR-28 between Jackpine Street and Laurel Drive:

  • Monday, July 22 between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 23 – Thursday, July 25 between 5 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Work is also scheduled along the westbound shoulder of SR-28 between the Tahoe State Park entrance and the State Route 89 intersection:

  • Monday, July 22 between 7 a.m. – 9 a.m.
  • Wednesday, July 24 from 6 p.m. until Thursday, July 25 at 4 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 25 from 6 p.m. until Friday, July 26 at 7 a.m.

In addition, Southwest Gas and its contractor, Q&D Construction, continue work on a gas-line replacement project on SR-28 between Tahoe City and Kings Beach. One-way traffic control is scheduled during the evening/overnight hours at the following locations:

Between Ridgewood Road and Sahara Drive and between Brassie Avenue and the junction with State Route 267 from Sunday, July 21 at 7 p.m. until Friday, July 26 at 7 a.m. No work is scheduled between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. each day.

Motorists could encounter total delays of up to one hour between Tahoe City and Kings Beach on SR-28 due to the various construction activities. Please allow for extra time to reach your destination. All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment and/or material availability, or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
