Grass Valley, CA, (October 3, 2024) – Hospitality House’s 18th annual Empty Bowl fundraiser was another success! Hosted this past September, local artists and restaurants gathered to raise awareness and funds to support Nevada County’s homeless residents in their efforts to return to permanent housing.

With the underwriting support of 6 local restaurants, 10 generous sponsors, 328 attendees, and many local artists, nearly $20,000 was raised – providing help to locals in crisis. Guests and clients receive emergency shelter, nutritious food, one-on-one case management, job training, housing aid and most importantly hope as they work to transition into permanent homes of their own.

“This event is about sustenance,” said Nancy Baglietto, executive director of Hospitality House. “People are hungry here in Nevada County and regularly turn to Hospitality House for safety and shelter. Lack of affordable housing in our community is a serious, ongoing challenge that directly correlates to homelessness. Empty Bowl is a reminder of what we can do together to bring hope and opportunity to those who need it most.”

In the last fiscal year, thanks to the generosity of our Nevada County donor community, Hospitality House provided 81,701 meals, served 869 unique individuals, assisted 91 pets, and helped 276 people secure housing.

A sincere thank you to our generous restaurant sponsors for hosting at their venue and donating all the food and service for the event:

Sopa Thai Cuisine

Lola @The National Exchange Hotel

Golden Gate Saloon @The Holbrooke Hotel

Heartwood Eatery

Friar Tucks Restaurant & Bar

Three Forks Bakery & Brewing Co

Hospitality House would also like to acknowledge Chapa-De Indian Health, BriarPatch Food Co-op, County of Nevada (Better Together), Pawnies Home Care, Coldwell Banker Grass Roots Realty, Bear River Valley Community Bank, The Union, KVMR, and YubaNet for their ongoing and sustaining support.

But this event would not be possible without the enormous outpouring of our artist community – who lovingly handcrafted hundreds of unique, beautiful bowls to make event even more meaningful. Thank you – Chic Lotz, Richard Hotchkiss, Yvone Doctor, Minday Oberne, Rene Sprattling , Bob Davis, and Pam Montalbano, and to all the artists who contributed through The Gold Country Woodturners and The Curious Forge.
