Nevada City – Nevada County is accepting applications from students in grades 9-12 for the inaugural Young Entrepreneurs Pitch Week, April 28 through May 2.

Pitch Week is a hands-on opportunity for young business minds to learn key entrepreneurial skills, including how to create a business model, budget and pitch deck over four workshops Monday to Thursday, April 28-May 1, from 4:30-7 p.m. at Nevada County’s Government Center, 950 Maidu Ave, Nevada City.

Participants will be paired into teams of two to four, working together to refine their ideas and present a business pitch during a showcase event on Friday, May 2, from 5-7 p.m. The final pitches will be evaluated in a “Shark Tank” style format, where participants will compete for cash prizes. First place will win $500, second place will receive $250, and the crowd favorite will also take home $250, sponsored by River Valley Community Bank.

Although this event is a first for western Nevada County, it draws inspiration from the successful youth pitch week events held in the Truckee/Tahoe region.

“We are excited to offer this unique opportunity for students to dive into the world of entrepreneurship right here in our community,” said Jeff Dellis, career technical education and youth leadership development project coordinator. “This program isn’t just about pitching an idea – it’s about giving students the tools and experience to succeed in the modern business world, nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs while also strengthening the future of our local economy.”

Pitch Week is free to attend and open to all students in grades 9-12 from western Nevada County high schools. A total of 24 spots are available. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 24. Interested students can apply online at www.nevadacountyca.gov/pitchweek.
