Nevada City, CA – The City of Nevada City, in partnership with the Public Arts Commission, proudly announces the second official exhibit in the City Hall Art Meets the Public (CHAMP) Gallery.

Following the successful inaugural “Year of the Neighborhood” exhibition, the CHAMP Gallery will showcase “Youth Visions of Tomorrow,” featuring original artwork by talented young artists from the Nevada City community.

The Public Arts Commission and City Council will host an opening reception for the “Youth Visions of Tomorrow” exhibit at 5 p.m. on Wed., May 28, 2025, at 317 Broad St. Join us to view the

artwork, meet the young artists, and celebrate the creative vision of our community’s next generation.

The “Youth Visions of Tomorrow” exhibit will run from May 12, 2025, through September 30, 2025, displaying multiple diverse pieces that showcase the artistic talents and perspectives of Nevada City’s youth. The call to artists, issued in March, generated enthusiastic community response through direct outreach, school partnerships, and collaboration with the Nevada County Arts Council.

“This exhibit highlights the incredible creativity and vision of our young community members,” said Nevada City Mayor Gary Petersen. “These artists represent the future of our vibrant arts community, and their work deserves to be celebrated and shared.”

The exhibition is supported by a local business, Nevada City Picture Framing, whose owner Melissa Goldman generously offered her time, space, and materials to provide a framing workshop for the participating artists. This community partnership exemplifies Nevada City’s commitment to supporting emerging artists and fostering creative collaboration.

The CHAMP Gallery is part of a broader public art initiative established in 2023 under Nevada City’s Strategic Plan for Vibrancy. The City Council created the Nevada City Public Arts Commission, which meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, and the community is invited to attend.

The Public Arts Commission continues to expand access to art throughout the city, with future exhibitions planned to showcase the diverse creative talents of the Nevada City community.
