Operatic singing puppets? A feature-length musical theatre marionette fairytale?  A giant singing book puppet holding all the stories of the world?

We are pleased to announce the latest creation from the fertile minds of Dalrymple MacAlpin and his production company, Heady Lore, to be presented on October 23-26th at the Nevada Theatre.

Welcome to “Rumpelstilzchen’s Fairy Gold,” a show for both children and adults, which features the groundbreaking combination of live classical instrumentation, operatic singing, theatrical storytelling with the art of puppetry, in an original play about the Brother’s Grimm most enigmatic character. A show which unhinges the door to a fantastic new world, a show which asks the question:

“If stories come from the world of imagination, what would happen if there weren’t any stories left?”

When was the last time you spent idle moments in daydream? In wonderment? In reverie?

These moments are precious, this is where ideas are born, where creativity flourishes, where imagination is awakened. However, the current culture of our modern digital age leaves little to no room for these in-between moments of timeless time. So, it is up to necessity, the mother of invention, to create something new. Enter, “Rumpelstilzchen’s Fairy Gold.”

As a species we instinctively trust in the unique power of stories; there is a reason we crave them, they touch upon a magical inner nerve which re-connects us to something greater than ourselves. Stories transform our reality, make us see the world anew and they inspire us to turn the page and see we all have stories to share.

The scope of “Rumpelstilzchen’s Fairy Gold” is more than a touring production, it is an immersive experience. MacAlpin, along with his creative team, has been working on an enrichment program for schools called Imagination Initiation, where children are engaged in a behind the scenes workshop of the production and are given the opportunity to collaborate with the storytelling process, meet the puppet characters and see how they operate, and engage with the musicians interactively by singing and rhythmic play. Imagination Initiation is currently in the development stage to commence in 2026.

“Rumpelstilzchen’s Fairy Gold” features 11 original songs performed live with piano, harp and vocals by MacAlpin, cello by orchestral soloist Jia-mo Chen and saxophone/vibraphone by Jesse Krautkramer. The show also features actors, singers and puppeteers Toni-Tone of Giant Puppets Save The World, Raven Aletheia, Audrey Delgado and Jori Phillip, who together bring to life two wise cracking bookworms, a mysterious witch in the woods and a larger-than-life operatic singing book. The show also showcases several handmade wooden marionettes designed and carved by MacAlpin after studying puppetry in the Czech Republic.

“Rumpelstilzchen’s Fairy Gold,” produced by Swazzle and Heady Lore, will debut October 23rd to 26th at the Nevada Theatre and is currently in development for a larger national tour. Tickets are available at www.dalrymplemacalpin.com
