Auburn – Residents near McKitrick Ranch Road in Nevada City may notice increased smoke in the area starting Friday night, June 19, 2026, through Tuesday June 23rd. This is NOT a CAL FIRE Burn.

A private landowner has obtained all required permits (including LE-7) to conduct a 2.2-acre prescribed fire. This is a planned, controlled burn designed to reduce vegetation, improve forest health, and lower wildfire risk in the area. All necessary safety measures and burn protocols are being followed.

What to Expect:

  • Visible smoke, especially during the evening and nighttime hours
  • Possible smoke odor in neighboring areas
  • The fire will be actively managed and monitored throughout the operation

This is not a wildfire. It is a permitted prescribed burn.

Residents with respiratory sensitivities are encouraged to stay indoors and close windows if smoke becomes noticeable. Smoke should dissipate quickly once the burn is completed and extinguished.
