AUBURN – Caltrans is alerting motorists of a scheduled three-week full closure of State Route 49 (SR 49) in Auburn at the intersection of Lincoln Way/Borland Avenue as part of the $13.1 million American Canyon Roundabout Project.

Crews are scheduled to close the intersection starting at 6 a.m. Monday, December 1 for construction of the roundabout. The closure will extend south along SR 49 to the American River Confluence and remain in place with a detour available through 6 a.m. Monday, December 22. Motorists will also encounter a temporary three-way traffic signal at the intersection of Foresthill Road and Old Foresthill Road during this time.

The extended closure will help to minimize the duration of the work and improve workers’ safety. Motorists should anticipate delays between 10 to 15 minutes, which may increase during peak commute hours.

Local residential access will be maintained with anticipated delays for crews to relocate equipment as needed to facilitate movement. Once reopened, the Lincoln Way/Borland Avenue intersection will be in the new roundabout configuration.

The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Lamon Construction Co., Inc. of Yuba City is the prime contractor for the project, which will realign two reversing curves to improve sight distance and safety by reducing the sharpness of each curve. Additionally, the existing traffic signal at the Lincoln Way/Borland Avenue intersection is being replaced with a roundabout to improve safety and traffic flow.
