Nevada City, CA — Indivisible Nevada County (INC), in partnership with the Nevada County Democrats, will host a public community event, “Standing Together Against ICE: Tools to Protect Our Community,” on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Miners Foundry in Nevada City.

The event comes amid heightened national concern over immigration enforcement practices and is designed to equip Nevada County residents with practical tools, resources, and coordinated actions to support immigrant families and respond safely and lawfully if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity occurs locally.

Kathy Dotson: “This event is about readiness, solidarity, and protecting our neighbors. We want people to know their rights, understand what to do if they see ICE agents, and have clear, nonviolent ways to support immigrant families in our community.”

Event Overview

The evening will include brief remarks from local and regional speakers such as: 

  • Lolo Stone – community organizer, strategist, and fearless advocate for human rights. She serves  as Director of Development at the Acacia Center for Justice, where she leads national initiatives to  expand immigrant legal defense, mobilize resources, and build durable infrastructure to protect due  process across the country.
  • Norcal Resist – A Northern California based grassroots organization that provides community defense, rapid response, and advocacy in support of immigrants and civil liberties.
  • A local faith leader will speak to the role of cross-congregational solidarity and mutual support in Nevada County. 
  • Additional Speaker details to be announced 

Attendees will have the opportunity to visit action stations and resource tables hosted by INC and partner organizations, offering resources, volunteer opportunities, and ways to stay connected through secure communication channels.

  • Know Your Rights information and red cards
  • Community alert practices, including proper whistle use
  • What to do if you see ICE agents, including safe observation and documentation
  • Nonviolent resistance principles and low-risk community response
  • Ways to support immigrant families through local networks such as Immigrant Rights Network and Norcal Resist
  • Opportunities for civic engagement, including petitions, Bridge Brigade sign-ups, postcard actions, and voter registration

Community Support & Donations

INC will provide practical tools and materials at the event, including whistles, printed guides, and Know Your Rights resources. Donations will be accepted at the door to help cover materials and support ongoing community work (cash appreciated). After covering the event cost, all monies will be donated to Norcal Resist. 

A food drive will also be held to directly support local families. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations.  

The event is free and open to the public. Donations suggested – All monies after cost of the event will be donated to NorCal Resist
