NEVADA CITY, Calif., October 30, 2026 – Ghosts, witches, ghoulies, superheroes and fantastical creatures converged on the Nevada County Government Center on Friday afternoon for the now traditional Halloween Spooktacular and Spoooky Booky event.
An estimated 1,500 visitors entered the HHSA Cinema and found themselves transported to Alice in Wonderland, encountered superheroes and villains, discovered an enchanted forest, a pumpkin patch like no other, saw mad scientists at work on one side of a corridor while Beetlejuice characters handed out candy on the other. Dinosaurs and farmers vied for attention while the Paw Patrol and another enchanted forest beckoned.
A short trek on the path (with a candy station staffed by the youth commissioners) brought the trick-or-treaters to the library where the magic of books was on full display. Story time, a photo booth, music and popcorn guided them back down the hill or to the shuttle to take them to downtown Nevada City for more.
All decorations, costumes and treats are a gift from county staff to the community. No tax dollars or work hours were used in the creation of this event.
Sponsors of the fifth annual Nevada City Halloween Spooktacular and Spooky Boooky include Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, CAL FIRE NEU, Nevada County Contractors’ Association, Waste Management – Grass Valley, 211 Connecting Point, Dignity Health and YubaNet.
