Warming Shelter

Sierra Roots, in partnership with Nevada County, will open the Emergency Weather Shelter for the third night tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 18. Location: Nevada City Vets Hall, 415 N Pine Street.

Roads

Crews will continue conducting snowplow operations and any downed trees overnight. Report down power lines, urgent after-hour or weekend incidents to 9-1-1. During regular work hours, report downed trees or issues on County-maintained roadways to Nevada County Public Works at 530-265-1411.

CURRENT CLOSURES

Gracie Road between Big Blue and Kathryn Lane is CLOSED due to tree and utility lines down across road. Utility lines have been removed, County road crews onsite clearing the remainder of the road.

Banner Quaker Hill Road is CLOSED due to hazardous conditions.

February 18, 2026 at 3:00 PM Due to weather conditions, the Lower Deer Creek – Penn Valley Town Hall Meeting, has been rescheduled for February 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

February 18, 2026 at 1:50 PM Nevada County Roads update: During the lull in the storm, crews have been pushing back snow and widening roadways to make room for the next round of weather expected this afternoon and evening. Crews are also continuing to address hazards such as downed trees and are coordinating with utility companies as incidents are reported. All current closures listed below have alternate routes available for access.

  • N. Bloomfield North of Bernard Place is OPEN.
  • Allison Ranch Road about a half mile from Mill St is OPEN.

  • Banner Quaker Hill Road is CLOSED due to hazardous conditions.

February 18, 2026 at 11:42 AM Wildlife Rehabilitation & Release: The Board has decided to cancel tonight’s annual and board of directors meeting due to safety issues related to the weather. The annual meeting will now be held on Thursday, March 19th at the IC at 5:30pm.

February 18, 2026 at 10:20 AM The Resilience Project community meeting scheduled for today from 4-6 pm at the LOVE building in Condon Park has been canceled.

February 18, 2026 at 9:10 AM PG&E update: We will be flying helicopters to patrol remote circuits as weather permits and using SnoCats to reach snowed-in areas. More out-of-area crews are arriving to assist local crews with restoration. Customer outage counts as of 8:40 a.m. today:

February 18, 2026 at 5:34 AM Following an assessment of the weather and road conditions around the University of Nevada, Reno campus, all non-essential campus operations and in-person classes are suspended today, Wednesday, Feb. 18. All web and web-live classes, and remote operations will continue as scheduled.

February 18, 2026 at 5:23 AM A quick National Weather Service update: We are currently in a lull in activity with isolated and scattered snow in the mountains and foothills. Look for precipitation to move in and spread over the area later this afternoon and evening continuing into the overnight hours. Heaviest snowfall and isolated thunderstorms will be tonight and into tomorrow. Snow levels are around 1500-2500 feet.

On Hwy 49 between Grass Valley and Nevada City, chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas).

The Truckee Courthouse will remain closed Wednesday February 18th, 2026, due to inclement weather and road conditions. Further updates for Nevada City Courthouse weather impacts may occur in the morning of February 18th.

Classes at Nevada City Ballet Academy are cancelled for Wednesday.

The Melo Plant Shop at 417 Broad Street in downtown Nevada City will be closed due to weather.
