Nevada City, Calif. — The City of Nevada City invites community members to attend an upcoming town hall meeting to review the fuels treatment plan and prescription for three City-owned open space parcels: Old Airport, Sugarloaf, and Hirshman’s Pond. Implementation of this project is planned to begin soon after the Town Hall.
The meeting will be held at City Hall Council Chambers, 317 Broad Street, Nevada City, CA 95945 at 6:00pm on Thursday March 5th, 2026. Community members are encouraged to attend, learn about the project, and participate in the discussion.
This work is primarily funded through Measure C (2024), a 0.5% sales tax approved by Nevada City voters to support wildfire risk reduction and community resilience efforts. Project implementation will be carried out largely by the City’s Fuels Crew, which is funded through Measure C (2024).

During the Town Hall, City staff and the project’s contracted Registered Professional Forester will present the treatment prescription, including the types of vegetation management activities planned, project timeline, and anticipated outcomes. The projects are identified in the Nevada City Community Wildfire Protection Plan and reflects the City’s continued commitment to reducing wildfire risk and strengthening community safety.
The Fire Safety Advisory Committee, comprised of five community members and two City Councilmembers has ranked this project as a high priority, second only to the Deer Creek Southside Fuels Project, which is scheduled for major implementation in the early spring of 2026 through partnerships and grant funding from Nevada County OES and Tahoe National Forest.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with City staff, the Fuels Crew, and the contracted forester to ask questions and provide input.
