The City Council candidate filing period for Nevada City has been extended following the close of the initial nomination deadline.
As of Friday, March 6, 2026, at 5:00 PM, the following individuals filed nomination papers for the two open City Council seats:
• Adam Kline
• James Khatami
• Micayla Sortland
Under California Elections Code, if an eligible incumbent does not file nomination papers by the close of the filing period, the nomination period is automatically extended for five additional days to allow other qualified candidates to enter the race.
The extended filing period will remain open until Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
Nevada City candidates interested in running for City Council may obtain nomination papers from the City of Nevada City Hall, 317 Broad Street, during regular business hours 8:00AM – 5:00PM (closed from 12:00PM–1:00PM). The extension period applies only to non-incumbent candidates; incumbents who did not file during the original filing period are not eligible to file during the extension.
