Nevada City, Calif. – Applications are open for Nevada County’s Compost Connector Program. The program matches farmers and ranchers with compost they need through a rebate program as part of the County’s SB1383 procurement program.
Through a partnership between Nevada County’s Solid Waste Division and Zero Foodprint, local agricultural producers can receive rebates up to $14 per ton for compost purchased through an approved supplier list.
“This is a great program that reduces the cost of compost to our local farming community. Hauling costs are high for compost as most of the providers are in the Sacramento Valley. We are glad to help reduce the cost burden for the ag community by offering the rebate program,” says Stacy Manning, Senior Community Development Technician with Nevada County Solid Waste.
Zero Foodprint, a California non-profit focused on climate friendly food production through its Collective Regeneration initiative, administers the program. Eligible farmers and ranchers may apply for rebates of $14 per ton, with minimum purchase requirements of five tons. Rebates after approved after Zero Foodprint verifies that compost has been delivered and applied.
The Compost Connector Program supports Nevada County in meeting SB1383’s requirements for local jurisdictions to acquire recovered organic waste products, such as compost, to help build a more sustainable and resilient green economy in California.
