After monitoring weather conditions and ground conditions Friday night and Saturday morning, PG&E began de-energizing targeted areas of Nevada and Placer counties at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, impacting approximately 1,300 customers.
Approximately 300 customers are impacted in Nevada County. Approximately 1,000 customers are impacted in Placer County.
Additional areas could be de-energized throughout the day, based on how the weather pattern develops. In total, this Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) could affect approximately 14,000 customers in 12 counties and four tribal areas in the Northern Sierra and Sacramento Valley areas through Monday.
Weather forecasts call for strong westerly winds with gusts between 35 and 50 mph Saturday across portions of the Northern Sierra, followed by north winds Sunday in the Sacramento Valley area. PG&E will continue to monitor weather conditions and communicate updates as forecasts evolve.
Additional areas could be de-energized throughout the day and through Monday, based on how the weather pattern develops. The decision to begin shutoffs is based on real-time weather conditions, and de-energizations may be delayed or cancelled. The duration and extent of power outages will depend on the weather in each area, as well as any damage and repairs that may be needed. v
