Redding, Calif. – Anyone interested in becoming a smokejumper or applying for a summer job as a smokejumper should know 2017 seasonal positions will be filled through a centralized-hiring process. The California Smokejumpers utilize high speed, fixed wing aircraft, to deliver wildland firefighters throughout California and beyond. Smokejumpers provide aggressive initial attack and natural resource expertise, in an effort to preserve the American landscape for future generations.

The vacancy announcement for seasonal smokejumpers opened on USA Jobs (https://www.usajobs.gov/) this week, and will close on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016. There are a number of duty locations available including: Redding, CA; Grangeville, ID; McCall, ID; Missoula, MT; West Yellowstone, MT; Redmond, OR and Winthrop, WA.

A minimum of one season wildland firefighting experience is required. Applicants will need to create a profile and resume on the USA Jobs website and are encouraged to read the vacancy announcements thoroughly for specific information about job requirements and how to apply.
