Washington March 7, 2018 – Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the Justice Department’s decision to sue California:

“The Trump administration continues to attack California in an attempt to score points with the president’s political base. These attacks are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“We’ve seen time and again that this administration is targeting all undocumented immigrants for deportation. Immigrants who are law-abiding, working and contributing to their communities are just as likely to be picked up as those with serious criminal records and who pose a threat to public safety. It makes no sense.

“ICE should not be targeting parents who have lived in this country for decades, arresting them as they take their children to school. That’s not what California stands for and our state’s actions to protect its residents are justified.

“California should not be punished for trying to shield immigrants from deportation and keep families together, and I fully support Attorney General Becerra in his efforts to defend our state.”
