SACRAMENTO, CA, March 7, 2018 – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California released the following statement today from David Huerta, Executive Board Member of SEIU California and President of SEIU USWW, following U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ appearance at a Sacramento event today hosted by the California Peace Officers Association:
Attorney General Sessions has made threatening hardworking people and racist bullying his full-time job. Now he is traveling to our great state to try to spread his xenophobia, but California isn’t buying it.
Threatening to use federal agencies against California and its residents and threatening to criminalize our political leader only strengthens our resolve. We will not stop fighting to protect California’s values and protect our immigrant brothers and sisters.
We are proud of the laws we have put into place to protect our immigrant families. We stand by the laws needed to keep Sessions and the Trump Administration from destroying lives and wiping out the human and economic investments of immigrants that keep our Golden State thriving.
Sessions would do well to try a different tactic: do his job and protect people.
