Sacramento, Calif. – Sacramento, Calif. – The Office of the California Secretary of State announced that polls are now open for the November 3, 2026, General Election. Today is the last day to vote in this election and polls are open today, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
Voters who still have their ballot can drop it off at any polling location, vote center, or ballot drop box in the state. Voters voting in person have the right to cast their ballot as long as they are in line by 08:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
Voters Who Missed the Deadline to Register Online to Vote Can Still Register and Vote
Eligible voters who missed the online registration deadline will still have the option of utilizing “Same Day” or “Conditional” voter registration, but will have to do so in person at their county elections office or at any in-person voting location. These voters will be asked to fill out a voter registration form and will be provided a ballot which will only be counted after their county office has completed the voter registration verification process.
California voters unsure of their voter status can quickly check it at voterstatus.sos.ca.gov.
Voters Can Choose How to Return Their Voted Ballot
California voters have options for returning their voted ballots—secure drop boxes, at a polling location or vote center, or through the United States Post Office. Given recent changes to postal service operations, voters mailing their ballot should get a hand-stamped postage as soon as possible. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received no later than seven calendar days after Election Day to be counted.
Voters can find more information about where they can return their voted ballot or vote in person here.
Voter Bill of Rights
California has a Voter Bill of Rights to ensure that every eligible voter can cast a ballot easily, confidentially, and free from intimidation. The California Voter Bill of Rights is printed in the Voter Information Guide, which was sent to every voting household in the state and will also be posted in every polling place and vote center on Election Day.
The Voter Bill of Rights is also available online in numerous languages and can be accessed here.
