Battle, Modoc, NF. One mile southwest of Newell, CA. Tall grass and brush. Moderate fire behavior with running and short range spotting. Residences threatened.

Firefighters held the Battle Fire near Horse Mountain southeast of Tulelake (T 46N R 6E Sec 17) to an estimated 562 acres yesterday and last night. It was 90 percent contained at last report.

The utility corridor in the area is no longer threatened.

Fire is located at Hwy 139 south of Newell, 12.5 miles southeast of Tulelake. Road closures are in effect for Hwy 139 to County Road 114 and County Road 114 to County Road 202. 500Kv power lines and structures are threatened.

The Battle Fire near Horse Mountain southeast of Tulelake (T 46N R 6E Sec 17) was reported just before 2 p.m. today and has reached more than 562 acres.

Modoc National Forest, Modoc County, CALFIRE and multiple other agencies are on scene and more suppression resources are en route.

Modoc County is closing roads in the area. At this time, County Road 114 is closed at County Road 140 and County Road 114 is closed at County Road 202. A Code Red alert has been issued to affected residents in the area and as a caution for road travel.
