Fire activity remains minimal. Crews will continue strengthening containment, mopping up hot spots, and conducting suppression repair throughout the incident.

Damage inspections will continue today, along with efforts to safely return affected communities to normal operations.

Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place where necessary as conditions continue to improve.

Fire activity remained minimial today, with no observable fire behavior outside of isolated areas of smoldering. Crews continue to strengthen containment lines, mop up remaining hot spots and complete suppression repair throughout the incident.

Power restoration continues in communities outside the fire area, and damage inspections remain in progress. Additional areas have reopened to residents as conditions allow, while some communities remain under Evacuation Orders and Warnings.

Crews continue to make steady progress on the Gann Fire. There has been minimal fire activity through the night and the same is expected today. Hot and dry conditions remain a consideration for firefighters as they work throughout the day.

Power restoration and damage inspections are ongoing.

Resources are available for community members affected by the fire.

Resource Connection Food Bank Calaveras County Residents with photo ID and proof of residency that need assistance can visit the food bank during normal operations on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-4 p.m. (closed for lunch 12-1230), or call (209) 754-1257.

Red Cross can assist residents who have homes that were damaged or destroyed if it meets their criteria. Proof of residency, photo ID, and proof of damage can be submitted with the Red Cross at either evacuation shelter to get the process started. Residents have up to 14 days to contact Red Cross for help after the shelters close with a few exceptions.

Aviation resources continue to support suppression efforts on the Gann Fire. Since the start of the incident, aircraft have delivered 234,721 gallons of retardant and 534,100 gallons of water, totaling 220 flight hours, including 44.9 hours of nighttime operations.

From August 5 through August 6 at 7:00 a.m., aircraft delivered an additional 979 gallons of retardant and 20,700 gallons of water. One helicopter supported overnight operations as the Helicopter Coordinator (HLCO) for 1.5 hours.

Direct handline and dozer line construction continue to be reinforced and mopped up across all divisions to secure containment and reduce
the potential for rekindles. Current resource needs are focused on maintaining sufficient engines, crews, and tactical water tenders to complete mop up, hold
containment lines, support firing operations, and begin suppression repair as conditions allow. Anticipated results include continued improvement in
containment, reduced fire activity, successful completion of remaining firing operations, and the initiation of suppression repair and phased resource
demobilization over the next several operational periods.

Firefighters continued suppression efforts on the Gann Fire yesterday focusing on the firing operation and strengthening control lines. Active fire behavior remained a challenge in critically dry fuels. Hot, dry conditions are expected to persist through the coming days, with temperatures above 100 degrees. Containment continues to increase despite challenging conditions.

Fire cause has been changed to equipment use.

Last night a firing operation began that will continue on today. This is a firefighting tactic used to remove unburned fuels to help contain the fire. It is expected to complete today, and additional smoke may be visible during this time. The Gann Fire is now 9,363 acres and 10% contained.

Direct line construction will be the focus of today’s efforts. A slight decrease in temperatures and increase in humidity are expected today. The incident will transition command to CAL FIRE IMT 6 this morning.

Yesterday, fire behavior was driven by critically dry fuel conditions in oak woodland transitioning into timber. Energy Release Component (ERC)
values are forecast to remain at historic critical levels over the next seven days, with both 100-hour and 1,000-hour dead fuel moistures remaining above
critical thresholds. A persistent high-pressure system produced excessive heat, with temperatures in the upper 90s and minimum relative humidity near 20
percent, supporting active surface fire, uphill runs, and increased resistance to control during the afternoon burn period.

Fire activity has decreased this evening. Night flying helicopters will be supporting firefighters throughout the night. A firing operation took place this afternoon on the western edge of the fire.

The Calaveras County Fairgrounds is accepting livestock evacuations for animals affected by the Gann Fire.

Reminder: If you are attempting to evacuate animals in an evacuation order area or beyond a road closure point, you must provide the approved and current Ranch Pass credentials at the checkpoint.  The Calaveras County Ranch Pass Program allows property owners/ranchers and authorized representatives (AR) to access their land during critical incidents such as wildfires to care for cattle, horses, and other livestock that depend on timely access to food, water, and safety. CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 6 has been assigned to the Gann Fire in Calaveras County to support the CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit and ongoing suppression efforts.

The Amador Air District and Amador County Public Health have issued a joint air quality advisory to notify the public of the potential for poor air quality conditions due to smoke from the Gann Fire currently burning in Calaveras County.

Wildfire smoke can vary across Amador County, with air quality affected by wind direction and levels of particulate matter. Amador County Public Health advises that wildfire can affect everyone, not just those with existing health conditions. While people with chronic illnesses, young children, pregnant individuals, and older adults may be more vulnerable, all residents can experience health impacts from smoke exposure.

If you smell or see smoke, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.  Wildfire smoke can irritate your lungs, cause inflammation, affect your immune system, and make you more prone to lung infections.  Symptoms may include, but are not limited to, coughing, watery and itchy eyes, headache, scratchy throat, and difficulty in breathing. 

Take the steps below to protect your health:

• Minimize outdoor activities.
• Stay indoors with windows and doors closed.
• Do not run fans that bring smoky air inside (such as swamp coolers, fresh air ventilation systems).
  • If you have a wall unit air conditioner or when in a vehicle, set AC to “re-circulate”
• Do not smoke, fry food or do other activities that that will create indoor air pollution.
• If you have chronic health conditions, monitor your health closely. Contact your health provider if your symptoms worsen, including repeated coughing and wheezing.
• If you are experiencing a health emergency, call 911.

The Amador Air District and Amador County Public Health will continue monitoring the air quality in the county and will provide additional advisories as air quality conditions evolve.
