No observed fire behavior occurred overnight. Firefighters will continue to extinguish hot spots and improve containment lines.
CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 will be transitioning the fire back to the CAL FIRE Fresno Kings Unit as of 7:00 A.M.

No observed fire behavior occurred last night. Today firefighters will continue work to mop-up and improve containment lines. The fire area remains restricted to residents only and everyone is encouraged to remain vigilant and cautious as emergency crews are still working in the area.

Interior islands and isolated fuels continued to burn and smolder. Fire personnel will continue to construct and improve containment lines today. Fire suppression repair will begin today.
PG & E restored power to most of the fire area. One area in Black Mountain has yet to be restored. Residents please be cautious of emergency crews and fire personnel working in the area while returning home. The area continues to be restricted to Residents Only. Damage assessment teams are in the area conducting evaluations. Power Companies are conducting infrastructure assessment for the feasibility of re-energizing the western portion. There was some increased fire activity today with some windy conditions. Containment levels are progressing slowly as firefighters are dealing with heavy fuels and extremely dry vegetation which has not burned since the early 1960’s.

Excessive heat, steep terrain, extremely dry vegetation due to many years of drought, has hampered fire suppression. The fire continues to move to the southeast direction. Firefighters will continue to construct containment lines to slow the growth of the fire eventually stopping the spread of the fire. CAL Fire Incident Management team 5 has been activated to assist the Fresno Kings Unit.

Fire activity and direction can change at any time, be prepared and stay informed. Motorists are advised to please drive cautiously while driving near the fire area where heavy equipment and fire engines are traveling to and from the fire.

The fire is now 15% contained thanks to good progress by firefighters overnight.

California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Director Mark Ghilarducci today secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the Goose Fire burning in Fresno County. The FMAG also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs.
